Hobbiton

A through station with three platforms and a passing track on the up-line (towards Michel Delving). Two branch lines start here: one running the short distance to Overhill and the other leading to a working coal mine. The latter cannot be used by locomotives because of a very steep gradient, and individual coal trucks are winched into the mine. A disused quarry just to the east of the station is now used for freight and storing rolling stock. Permanent Way for the Shire railway is located here.
